Savannah and Charleston

People seem to prefer one over the other and they are always comparing the two cities. We stayed 2 nights in each (so we had a full day to explore each one) and liked them both, for different reasons. Savannah seems to be more laid back (and not just because they also favour the to go cup policy!) while Charleston has an urban feel (with a lot of well-known restaurants and designer stores) but it also has the traditional architecture that we loved in Savannah. Charleston is a foodie's paradise! Here's what we did:

We rented a suite in Savannah that had been restored.

Bed was a bit much for me...felt like I was going to roll off!

Here is Paula Deen's famous restaurant...all of the controversy didn't seem to affect it since it was packed at night.

They have nice squares all over Savannah...you can't tell how hot it is there (HOT) but I really wanted to dip in.

Something I live by
Umm...

Can always find one

If we can't jump in the fountains, at least we can get a to go cup (peach sangria, yum!).

Forsyth Park - Savannah

When we left Savannah, we checked out Tybee Beach and then off we went to...

Tybee Beach

Savannah Wildlife Refuge

And someone got really excited!

He did see the 2 eyes popping up but the gator remained hidden otherwise.

It was too hot for the armadillo.

We also made one more detour on the way...drove down Alligator Alley and discovered a 4 mile scenic drive off of this alley...

Wow! Biggest one yet!

Mike was right down in the tall grass taking pictures....this woman up on the road (where I was also) warned me about water moccasins lurking the tall grass. Thankfully, the gator hunter was unharmed.

We went to get some dinner when we got to Charleston and experienced one of the craziest storms on the way back.

Oysters sure are cheap down here but you never get a choice of which type you want (you get whatever they have). Still yummy!
Our walk home

Mike got some good shots

Our hotel in Charleston. It was in a converted warehouse.
Nice hotel that we explored on our walk around the city.
View from their roof
We had massages in the old stable house as our anniversary present...weird how something rustic back in the 1800s could be considered romantic today. :)

Who knew watermelon and goat cheese could taste so good? Anniversary lunch. :)

Just south of Myrtle Beach

Virginia - here we come!
