Strasbourg, France (with a quickie stop in Luxembourg)

Driving back to France on our way to Germany, we also drove through Luxembourg and stopped for about an hour to walk around. It would be a good place to return to and spend a bit more time. It is one of the richest countries in the world.

We then drove on to Strasbourg, where we spent the weekend. The European Parliament is situated here (as well as in Brussels). Our apartment stop was a place renovated in the baroque style, complete with animals dressed as people on the walls and velvet everywhere. Very funky! There is a beautiful Cathedral in Strasbourg and we were able to climb to the top to have views of the city.

Note on water: We're in Europe! It seems like the tap water should always be drinkable. You can get tap water when eating out in France (for free) but this wasn't the case in Belgium. I made that mistake the first night in Bruges and ended up having to buy bottled water in the restaurant when he told me they don't serve tap water (but that 7 euro bottled water was delicious). I resorted to sneaking my bottles of tap water into restaurants going forward (I was ordering other beverages anyway). It seemed that other restaurants charged 2-3 euro per bottle though so we only got hosed at the first place.

Another thing we noticed is that public toilets were always free in France...we had to pay in Belgium (well I had to pay). Could have gotten expensive if we'd stayed there too long.

A whole lot of beef tartare. Delicious but perhaps better as an appetizer. This was a bit overwhelming!
