Getting Winky with it in Barcelona, Spain

Ah, Barcelona. The last city in our Europe leg before heading home to Canada. And how better to see it than with the Winklmeiers?! We ate, we drank, we saw a lot of cool architecture and then we did it all again. It was a blast!

Other highlights were Gaudi's Sagrada Família, biking along the beach, Marta's paella cooking class and Violetta's dinner.

Barcelona was great for a few days but not a city I'd want to live in. I loved the food but London wins out of the 3 major cities we visited on this trip (Paris, London, Barcelona).

It was hard to leave but we are ready for Canada. Bring on the Vancouver summer! One last stop first... let's check out Calgary.

This ain't London, so we really shouldn't be drinking on the street. These Winklmeiers are already getting us to do illegal things and we've only been reunited for half an hour by this point!
Oh dear, he's bringing out his lens cleaner for his bada** camera.
Time to eat, not play with the camera. You might notice a theme here.
Oh phew, it's been set down for a sec, although it's never far away. Viola is pretending to look interested in something while apparently I'm sleeping.
Our after dinner digestive.
The next morning, the Winklmeiers made us breakfast and then bagged lunches while we we did some laundry at their place. Not bad, not bad service at all!
And they were pretty yummy too! Maybe we should bring these Winklmeiers on more trips with us.
View from inside Park Guell
Looks a bit Disneyesque here.

Admiring Gaudi's architecture

Waiting to funicular
Umm, is it just me or does this have some resemblance to a Disney Park? I knew it, the Winklmeiers couldn't go long without incorporating Disney into their schedule! These people may have a problem. Nevertheless, it was pretty cool up here. That's the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) in the background.
Nice views from the top of this Disney aka Tibidabo Amusement Park.
Gaudi's Sagrada Família
Locals or tourists? I'm thinking tourists, especially since audio guides complete the ensemble. Look at these twinsies.
Inside Sagrada Família - this was one of my favourite places all trip. It's a Roman Catholic Church that is still not finished (construction was started in 1882), although I believe they're hoping to finish it within the next 10-20 years.

Time to eatwith (and cook with) Marta. That paella pan is almost the size of her! Wish I'd discovered this website sooner on the trip: http://www.eatwith.com

This Marta is sure serious about her paella.
My garlic chopper
Remy, aka Pepper Man, doing his thing.

And a beautiful end result. Marta couldn't have done it without us! Of this, I'm sure.
